Momentum

Image
Recently, I feel that I'm gaining momentum in my journey to the less .  To my surprise, my sister started to get the idea of minimalism and began to embark on this journey too. Initially she was kinda afraid to let it go . Of cos, I will help her pertaining to any question she has for minimalism. Ultimately she is my sister and me, as a brother I want her to be as happy as possible. I also urge her once she has discarded most of her stuffs, slowly she will see a lot of space being freed up and slowly she will feels more relieved and calm, especially she is working in a fast pace and stressful environment. So what to do next?  First thing first, do not fill up the void. Do not let the empty space scared you. Leave it as it is . Then as you have much lesser stuffs now, you will soon become very focus . Now you might be curious and ask "why is that so?" The reason is because, many of us are being distracted by all these meaningless things surr

Cold Shower

Recently both of my water heaters have spoilt. However, one was salvaged by my father in law and the other is dead. Nevertheless, I decided not to change the one that is unable to "survive" as my minimalist's instinct told me. Since young, I have bathed in a warm or hot shower. It already becomes a habit. But recently as I become more and more minimalistic, I will questioned everything that I use or given to me "do I really need it?" So I googled " coldest temperature in Singapore " and I found out that the lowest temperature in Singapore is 19.0 °C which is still  consider not too cold for me. Furthermore there are more benefits for showering with "cold water" than hot ones. Which reminds me of an uncle of mine who smoke and drink for most of his adult life (he's now about 60s plus), told me "bathing in cold water is beneficial to your health!" Till now I can vividly remember what he told me when I was still a sma

Annual Reports

Image
Ever since I started to take my investment journey seriously via my own simple investing approach , I started to receive many annual reports from different listed companies. As my portfolio is well diversified, I'm now receiving averagely at least one annual report per month. I did attend some of the annual general meetings, but I couldn't attend all of them as some of the meeting date crashes. I also promise myself to read through all of the annual reports, however, it is almost impossible to do so. I rather spend more time playing with my kids than to literally finish reading all of them. As time goes by, more and more annual reports stacked up in my study room, dinning room, living room etc. They just quietly, slowly growing by themselves! So what would I do next time is to read through all the important informations once I have received it. And after that I would just recycle them through paper waste bin. How about you? Are you cluttered by annual report

Fridge Magnets

Image
I still remember that when my friend invited me to his house, the first impression that caught me was his fridge. It looks about the same as the above picture. As he is a real estate investor, not only he has houses all over the world, every now and then, he is in different part of the world. And every time he travels, he will get some souvenirs. One of the common souvenirs he would buy is fridge magnets . Probably that's the reason why he has a clutter of them. Today, I took a good look at my fridge. Oh Gosh! I'm just like him. Not only I have some fridge magnets that I bought when I went oversea for holidays, I also have quite a number of fridge magnets which those advertisers or sale people sent to my door step. Some are even repeated ones. Therefore, without much hesitation, I threw most of them away which I deemed that I won't get any value out from them. At last! Now my fridge looks like a fridge instead of a rubbish full of clutter! So, tell me ho

Look Beyond Price

Image
"Wow! Look at that shop! They are having Great Singapore Sale! Buy 1 and get 1 free for everything!" This is what my subconscious mind was telling me few years ago whenever Great Singapore Sale is here. We are constantly looking for sales and buy stuffs that serve no purpose. We are constantly buying things for "JUST IN CASE" We don't question ourselves what's the purpose of acquiring these items . Most of the time, we throw away things based on the price we purchased them rather than the value it provide us. Most of the time, we equate higher price = higher value and vice versa. Think about it, what's the actual cost on all these stuffs you are owning now. Does it frequently deplete your time, energy etc to upkeep them? Well, it's time to let them go .
