Halloween For Minimalists

Image
You might be wondering how minimalists would celebrate their halloween............ When you walk into places like DIASO, IKEA, GIANT, or FAIRPRICE etc, you will see a lot of halloween stuffs being sold. Not only this, a lot of "trick or treat stuffs" will be marked up at least 20-30% higher. As the day get closer or over, all these sweet treats' prices will then be marked down. So as a minimalist, we wouldn't want to accumulate useless stuffs that don't add values to our lives! So, how can we celebrate halloween totally and completely? Well, I have a suggestion........ Make your own "halloween stuffs" with whatever you have at home! For example, I taught my daughter how to make a halloween mask simply by using what she has at home (colour pencils, drawing paper, rubber band etc). Alternatively, you can have fun with them using free downloadable app like "egg". Watch how I turn into a werewolf here . This is how you can c...

Should you get iPhone X as a minimalist?

Image
Recently, not only Apple had launched the latest iPhone known as iPhone 8 (The new generation of iPhone), they also launched the iPhone X (Saying hello to the future). For those who have been an Apple fan for pretty long time, likely they already knew that every one to two years, Apple will launched a new iPhone which is "pretty similar" to the previous version (except some new features been introduced) Although, iPhone itself is pretty minimalist as the creator keep it simple but just having a screen and a home button, but do you think that you should keep on upgrading your iPhone in every one to two years? For those who loves the many tricks that iPhone can do , or being productive to have a faster processing phone, probably would want to keep on upgrading, as for every upgrade, the processor get better and faster. However, as a minimalist, as our motto is "less is more" , do you really think that you should keep on upgrading to the latest iPhone even...

Momentum

Image
Recently, I feel that I'm gaining momentum in my journey to the less .  To my surprise, my sister started to get the idea of minimalism and began to embark on this journey too. Initially she was kinda afraid to let it go . Of cos, I will help her pertaining to any question she has for minimalism. Ultimately she is my sister and me, as a brother I want her to be as happy as possible. I also urge her once she has discarded most of her stuffs, slowly she will see a lot of space being freed up and slowly she will feels more relieved and calm, especially she is working in a fast pace and stressful environment. So what to do next?  First thing first, do not fill up the void. Do not let the empty space scared you. Leave it as it is . Then as you have much lesser stuffs now, you will soon become very focus . Now you might be curious and ask "why is that so?" The reason is because, many of us are being distracted by all these meaningless things surr...

Cold Shower

Image
Recently both of my water heaters have spoilt. However, one was salvaged by my father in law and the other is dead. Nevertheless, I decided not to change the one that is unable to "survive" as my minimalist's instinct told me. Since young, I have bathed in a warm or hot shower. It already becomes a habit. But recently as I become more and more minimalistic, I will questioned everything that I use or given to me "do I really need it?" So I googled " coldest temperature in Singapore " and I found out that the lowest temperature in Singapore is 19.0 °C which is still  consider not too cold for me. Furthermore there are more benefits for showering with "cold water" than hot ones. Which reminds me of an uncle of mine who smoke and drink for most of his adult life (he's now about 60s plus), told me "bathing in cold water is beneficial to your health!" Till now I can vividly remember what he told me when I was still a sma...

Annual Reports

Image
Ever since I started to take my investment journey seriously via my own simple investing approach , I started to receive many annual reports from different listed companies. As my portfolio is well diversified, I'm now receiving averagely at least one annual report per month. I did attend some of the annual general meetings, but I couldn't attend all of them as some of the meeting date crashes. I also promise myself to read through all of the annual reports, however, it is almost impossible to do so. I rather spend more time playing with my kids than to literally finish reading all of them. As time goes by, more and more annual reports stacked up in my study room, dinning room, living room etc. They just quietly, slowly growing by themselves! So what would I do next time is to read through all the important informations once I have received it. And after that I would just recycle them through paper waste bin. How about you? Are you cluttered by annual report...
